What We Believe

  • BIBLE and SALVATION —THE BIBLE:  We accept the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God speaking through their authors revealing life centered in Jesus Christ.   SALVATION:   We believe that by our own reason or strength we cannot believe in Jesus Christ our Lord or come to him. In other words, we are saved by Grace alone.

  • GOD —THE TRIUNE:  God is one and is the only one God.  Within the unified essence of the FATHER, there are three distinct persons who are coeternal, coequal, and cosubstantial.  JESUS CHRIST: The Son of God became man in the divine-human person of Jesus Christ.  HOLY SPIRIT:  We believe that Jesus meets us here as the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live life freely and live life pleasing to God.

  • CHURCH —The church is a body of believers who have been called out from the world, following the teachings of Martin Luther.  We confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe.  We accept the Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of our faith.  Calvary Lutheran Church belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) East-Central Synod of Wisconsin.
